Monkeywrench Bicycles

Saint Simons Island, Georgia

Monkeywrench came to Saint Simons in 2003 and moved to 1708 Frederica Road five years later. The shop sells and repairs bikes, runs a rental fleet, and starts island group rides from its front door.

The project

The move to Frederica Road put the sales floor, repair benches, and rental fleet under one roof. Monkeywrench carries Trek and Electra bikes, including e-bikes, and rents Townies and cruisers with helmets, locks, baskets, and other gear.

The shop is also a meeting point for local riders. Group rides gather over coffee before heading toward Sea Island Road, the village, or Christ Church. For larger Golden Isles events, the Monkeywrench van travels with mechanics who handle last-minute air-ups and tune-ups.

That traffic explains the building better than a style label. The covered walk gives riders a shaded place to collect bikes and make adjustments; inside, the open trussed room leaves enough floor area for new bikes, rentals, accessories, and repairs to share the shop without getting in one another’s way.
