Macon, Georgia

The project

Wesleyan attributes Huckabee Hall (1957), Jones Hall (1959), Hightower Hall (1963), and the Valeria McCullough Murphey Art Building (1964) to W. Elliott Dunwody.

Jones and Hightower added residence-hall capacity during a period of campus growth. Murphey created dedicated rooms for studio art and art history; the college describes it as the only academic building outside the main quadrangle.

The four commissions document a seven-year relationship rather than a single project. They added student rooms and art facilities to a campus whose principal lawns and axes had been established in the 1928 master plan.
