The project

Two independent records establish the attribution. The Mercer Cluster named Dunwody, Beeland and Henderson as designers when the library opened in 1987, while Eugene Cox Dunwody's obituary lists Tarver Library among the projects under his direction.

The multistory brick building addresses the campus with a peaked clock tower and a symmetrical entry composition. Traditional massing gives the library a civic face; inside, the program carried the changing technical and social demands of a late-twentieth-century university library.

The attribution applies to the original 1987 library. The building has remained in campus use as Mercer’s main Macon library.
