The project

First National Bank and Trust Company opened its Southside branch at 2791 Houston Avenue in 1957. Historic Macon identifies W. Elliott Dunwody, Jr. as the architect.

The one-story building combines a broad overhanging roof, a glazed banking lobby, and a formal entrance that preservation records describe as mixing mid-century modern, Art Deco, and temple-front references.

The branch closed in 2000. Historic Macon placed it on the Fading Five in 2021, making it the youngest building the organization had selected at that time.
