The project

McIntosh House was built in 1829 across from the Old Governor’s Mansion. More than 150 years of additions and changing uses had left the small house with a complicated collection of rooms and building systems.

The restoration repaired original wood paneling and fireplaces and renewed the clapboard exterior. A widened stair, ramp, lift, and modified porch made the first floor accessible without replacing the house’s principal rooms.

The project returned the building to daily use as university offices and received statewide preservation recognition from the Georgia Trust.
