The project

Architect O.C. Lam designed the Royal Theater, which opened in 1937 and showed movies until 1980. The building then served as Hogansville City Hall from 1984 through 2021.

Dunwody/Beeland led the city’s rehabilitation. Selective demolition removed alterations from the 1960s and 1980s, exposing original Art Deco elements; grant funding supported new seating and restoration of salvaged Irwin Seating Company seats.

The $3.7 million project reopened in November 2024. The city-managed theater now presents films, touring performers, and community events.
